The Blue Whale Game has been known for the spate of suicides that have been associated with it, and most of these have involved teenagers. This shocking internet craze has sparked deep reflection about the safety of the internet, mental health, and online manipulation, leading it to be a dangerous means of scheming people. The challenge originated in 2013 in Russia but has reportedly guided participants through 50 days of increasingly worse tasks, culminating in a suggestion that they commit suicide. Though the true origins of the game are not known, it incited widespread concern and calls to make the internet safer and more aware.

What Is the Blue Whale Game?
The Blue Whale Game is said to be an online game in which a set of tasks is assigned to a person over a period of 50 days. The given tasks start innocuous but increases its level of danger day by day. The last assignment compels the player to commit suicide. The game is said to have been created by Philipp Budeikin, a former psychology student in Russia, who stated he wanted “to cleanse society” by forcing people to commit suicide.

In sum, it is believed that the title “Blue Whale” has been borrowed for the simple reason that blue whales always beach themselves to die there, symbolizing the tragic end at which the game leads one — death.
