Thousands of years ago, people gazed up at the stars in search of some kind of explanation for their existence. Such searches have been supplemented by explanations of personality characteristics said to be held in store through horoscopes as applied to birthdays. The actual truth as to what we know of zodiac signs is very much open for discussion. Let’s take a closer look at the history, science, and cultural significance of astrology.
Origen of the Zodiac
The present system of the zodiac stems from 2,000 years ago in ancient Babylon. From the Babylonians to the Greeks and Romans, the heavens were segmented into twelve parts with a different constellation for each part. The segments evolved into the twelve signs we know today-Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and so on-and used as the calendar’s methodology in keeping time. Each sign was linked to specific mythological objects, like the lion of Hercules’ Labors for Leo and Aries as a ram in Greek mythology.

Although the origins of zodiac signs date back thousands of years, the science behind them has little credibility. One main issue is a process called precession.
